Luxurious tub in bathroom

I’ve been to some of the world’s best spas—my most recent relaxing getaway was to The Park Hotel Vitznau serenity with views to die for—but sometimes, the ultimate luxury is right at home. Turning your bathroom into a luxe retreat doesn’t take a full remodel; it’s about small, intentional touches that make you feel pampered every time you step in. Here’s how I’ve transformed mine into a sanctuary that rivals any five-star escape.

Start with the lighting. Harsh fluorescents are a mood-killer—swap them for soft, warm bulbs or a dimmable CB2 sconce that casts a golden glow. I added a small Himalayan salt lamp for that extra spa-like warmth; it’s a game-changer for evening soaks. Next, invest in plush towels—think thick, hotel-quality ones in crisp white or a soft taupe. Parachute Home has some that feel like a hug after a bath.

Scent is everything. I keep a Diptyque Baies candle on the counter—its blackcurrant and rose notes make the air feel expensive. For a budget-friendly alternative, a few drops of lavender essential oil in a diffuser work wonders. Add a touch of nature with a small potted plant—eucalyptus or a fern thrives in the humidity and looks effortlessly chic. I’ve got a tiny vase of fresh eucalyptus next to my sink; the scent is pure calm.

Don’t skimp on the details. A sleek tray to hold your products—like a marble one from West Elm—keeps things tidy and elevated. I decant my bath salts into a glass jar; it’s a small step that feels indulgent. And music—always. A waterproof Bluetooth speaker playing soft jazz or a spa playlist sets the tone; I swear by my Bose.

Finally, make it a ritual. Run a hot bath, add a Lush bath bomb, and let the world melt away. My bathroom’s become my escape—no plane ticket needed. What’s your luxe touch? Live bright.

A cozy warm getaway in a winter snow filled mountain valley

Winter is here, and while some people may be content to huddle indoors, others want to escape the cold and enjoy a luxurious winter getaway. Luckily, there are plenty of destinations around the world that offer the perfect blend of comfort, elegance, and adventure, making them ideal for a luxury winter vacation.

First on the list is Aspen, Colorado. Known for its world-class skiing, nestled in the Rocky Mountains, Aspen is a winter paradise for those who love the outdoors. But even if you're not a ski enthusiast, Aspen still has plenty to offer, from spas and top-rated restaurants to world-class shopping and entertainment.

Another great option for a luxury winter getaway is Gstaad, Switzerland. This charming Alpine village offers a picturesque setting, with snow-capped peaks and lovely chalets. But what sets Gstaad apart from other ski destinations is its luxurious amenities, from exclusive designer boutiques to five-star hotels and top-rated restaurants; it's a place set aside for those that live for lavish accommodations.

And for those who prefer a more urban environment, nothing beats a winter vacation to the city that never sleeps, New York City. The 'Big Apple' is a winter wonderland with its Christmas decorations and lights, ice-skating rinks, fine shopping, Broadway shows, and world-class restaurants.

Lastly, if you're looking for a luxury winter destination that combines culture and history, consider visiting Kyoto, Japan. The city is renowned for its beautiful temples, gardens and geisha districts, and the winter months offer a unique opportunity to explore these cultural gems in the snow.
